When to go to the Emergency Room

When to go to the Emergency Room

When to go to the emergency room for a sports injury

Most sports injuries are simple sprains, strains, or stable fractures that can be treated in our offices within a day or two, thus avoiding the time and expense of an unnecessary trip to the emergency room. In order to quickly determine a prognosis and speed the return to athletic competition, our office makes a concerted effort to promptly schedule appointments for injured athletes. However, injuries that are accompanied by dislocation, deformity, gross instability, or neurovascular symptoms should be seen in the emergency room. If in doubt, a phone call to our office for advice is appropriate.
