History of Northwest Orthopaedic Associates
Northwest Orthopaedic Associates was founded in 1976 by Dr. Lewis G. Zirkle, Jr. Dr. Zirkle developed our present structure at 875 Swift Blvd in 1976-77. In 1979 he was joined by Dr. Herbert G. Gamber and later in the same year by Dr. John T. Samsell. 1991 saw a small expansion of the existing structure to accommodate room for storage, files, and a break room for employees.
Dr. John W. Staeheli joined the practice in 1993. In 1996 Dr. Herbert Gamber retired from orthopaedic practice.
Dr. John R. Perry joined the group in 1996 and since then we have expanded to include Dr. Mary Lynn Scovazzo (2002), Dr. Gordon Hsieh (2005) and a physician assistant, Michael Perala.
In 2002-03 the existing structure went through some major modernization to provide increased patient rooms and educational space on the upper floor. The lower floor now houses Swift Rehabilitation L.L.C., doctor offices, business offices, and an employee break area.
The front of the building was expanded to accommodate an elevator for easier patient access and larger waiting areas, both upstairs and downstairs. Space for an extremity MRI unit was added to the upper floor and the cast room was remodeled. The parking lot was repaved and a new entrance was added for better access to the building. The landscaping was also updated and improved.
In December 2005, Dr. John T. Samsell, MD retired after 26 years.
In June, 2008 Dr. John R. Perry left practice to pursue other interests.
In 2007 we welcomed Dr. Melvin Wahl, MD (September) with a sub-specialty of spinal surgery and Dennis Ang, ARNP (October). In February 2009 Dr. Wahl and Dennis moved their spine practice to the Kadlec Neuroscience Center.
